You have already told the story. It still lives in your body.
EMDR for complex trauma, in Perth and online.
Most people who come to us have done therapy before. They can explain what happened, sometimes without flinching. What has not moved is the flinch itself, the reaction that arrives before the thought, the belief about themselves that no amount of insight has touched. EMDR works with where that actually sits. Answer six short questions and we will come back to you within one business day with who is available, what the first session looks like, and what it costs.

Six questions. Around two minutes.
Step 1 of 6
What has been going on for you?
Select anything that fits. You do not have to explain it here.
A therapist reads your answers, not a computer. Sending this does not create a diagnosis and does not commit you to booking.
If you are in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, or 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.

Why nothing moved
Understanding it and being free of it are two different things.
This is the gap most people arrive with.
You can recite what happened in order. You can name the patterns, spot them as they start, explain them clearly to someone else. And your chest still tightens before you have consciously registered what set it off.
That is because the reaction is not stored as a story. It is stored in the nervous system, as a fragment that never got filed as over. Talking works through understanding, and understanding does not reach it. EMDR works with the brain and the body directly, which is why it can move things that years of insight did not.
You do not have to retell everything, or remember exactly what happened. EMDR helps your brain file it where it belongs.
What people notice starting to change
Memories that were raw start to lose their charge
The beliefs underneath them begin to move
Less reacting on autopilot, more choice in the moment
Sleep settles and the night-time noise quietens
The body feels less braced
How long this takes is different for everyone, and your therapist will be honest with you about what your timeline looks like.
How we work
The eye movements are the smallest part of it.
Most of the work happens before you get there.
People picture EMDR as eye movements and nothing else. The real work starts the moment you walk in. The conversation about what happened, learning to feel what is happening in your body, building the plan together, that is all EMDR.
For complex trauma, childhood sexual abuse or years of relational harm, the eye movements might not happen for six, twelve, even eighteen months. You need to feel safe first. That is not a delay, it is the process.
1
Getting to know what you are carrying
Your therapist maps your history and what you want to be different, at whatever pace you can manage.
2
Building the ground to stand on
You learn to notice and settle what happens in your body. For complex trauma this is most of the early work.
3
Choosing what to work on
You and your therapist agree on what to target first. Nothing is processed before you are ready for it.
4
Processing
Short sets of bilateral stimulation while you hold the memory lightly. You stay awake, in control, and can stop at any point.
5
Checking and closing
Every session ends settled, never mid-process, and the next one starts by reviewing where things landed.
EMDR here always runs alongside parts work and somatic therapy, in the session rather than as an add-on. For complex trauma, EMDR on its own is rarely enough.
An honest look
EMDR is not always the right place to start, and we will say so.
Sometimes the answer is not yet.
Running standard EMDR on childhood trauma without adapting it is one of the most common reasons someone tells us it did not work for them last time. If what you need is stability first, we will tell you that on the call rather than book you in and hope.
Neurodivergence does not rule you out. ADHD, autism and aphantasia, which is the inability to picture images and which also turns up with complex trauma, none of those exclude you. They change how we adapt the work, not whether you can do it.
EMDR may be a good fit if
You have done talk therapy and the reactions have not changed
Something intrudes on your day without being invited
You want an approach that does not need you to retell it all
You are ready to build the groundwork before processing
You want someone who will adapt it rather than run it by the book
We would build stability first if
You are currently in an unsafe situation
You experience significant dissociation
You are in acute crisis right now
Substance use is at a level that would make processing unsafe
You have no support around you at the moment
This is general information. Your therapist works this out with you, not from a form.
Who you would see
Three EMDR practitioners. You choose, or we match you.
Different people suit different people.
Fit matters more in trauma work than in almost any other kind of therapy. You can pick who you want from the form, or leave it to us and we will match you on availability, what you described and how each of them works.

Why people stay
We would rather tell you it is too early than book you in anyway.
What you can expect from us.
The most common reason someone tells us EMDR did not work last time is that it was started before the ground was ready, or run by the book on trauma that needed it adapted. We would rather have a fifteen minute conversation and tell you the honest answer, even when the honest answer is that we are not the right fit for you.
A real conversation first
Renee answers your enquiry and calls you back. You are not dropped into a booking calendar and left to work it out.
Adapted, not run by the book
EMDR here is shaped around complex trauma, neurodivergence and whatever else you bring, in every session.
Three modalities in the room
EMDR runs alongside parts work and somatic therapy, because for complex trauma one of them alone rarely does it.
Costs on the table early

Not sure which session length you need?
Most people doing EMDR work end up in 90 minute sessions, because processing does not divide neatly into an hour. Some start at 60 minutes while the groundwork is being built. Tell us what is going on and we will recommend a starting point on the call.
Email or text is completely fine if talking feels like too much.
The next step
Six questions, and an honest answer.
One business day to hear back.
Tell us what has been going on and who you would like to see. We will come back to you with whether EMDR is the right next step, who has availability, and what it costs. If the answer is that something else should come first, we will tell you that instead.
